Throughout the world, real estate developers are judged by their stewardship of a single final resource: land. For decades, Buchanan Partners has carefully balanced competing interests in land use and development, expertly navigating intricate zoning procedures and working closely with our neighbors in nearly a dozen jurisdictions. Over the last several decades, we have entitled, developed, and owned properties on over 2,000 acres of land in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. We made our mark by acquiring and developing more than two million square feet of pioneering flex and industrial buildings and commercial condominium space to accommodate a wide variety of office, recreation, warehouse, and distribution uses. From there, we expanded into office, retail, and the type of mixed-use development that advances “smart growth” and builds vibrant communities. Along the way, we have become leaders in numerous local government economic development initiatives and public-private partnerships.
JOINT VENTURES
Institutional and private investors throughout the US and the world seek out Buchanan Partners to pursue joint venture property acquisitions and development in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Our joint venture partners have included a Netherlands-based investment firm, local real estate owners and developers, and several high net-worth families and individuals. In late 2017, we teamed with Miami-based real estate investment firm Elion Partners to acquire a 700,000-square foot industrial portfolio in northern Virginia’s Route 28 corridor, located in close proximity to Washington Dulles International Airport. We continue to welcome interest from joint venture investors and co-developers.

Asset management is critical to tenant satisfaction and retention as well as maintaining the long-term value of commercial buildings. Since 1979, we have managed our own growing portfolio as well as assets owned and operated by other entities through our subsidiary, Buchanan Properties, LLC. Our engineering, maintenance, and construction management professionals work seamlessly together to maintain high occupancy in all classes of buildings.
